Painting a Panther

New style of painting for me, very early attempts at vehicles were basically dry brushed – quick, easy and looks pretty good.  Time to up the ante with some a more controlled approach.
First thing for me is to make sure I have something to hold while painting – so double sided sticky tape onto old DBM bases.  Then a quick spray of black to get the undercoat.
First up – a ‘damp brush’ of VMC middlestone.  By damp brush I mean a big brush (size 10) loaded with diluted paint, most of it wiped off, then hit the mini with it (the bristle end, we don’t want any dinks in the undercoat).  Two coats to get a good coverage.

Ink wash – diluted VGC smoke ink.

Panel painting.  Back to middlestone, nice and thin.  Paint around each of the panels and with a reasonably thick line.  Repeat.

Then add some white (about 30%) and do it again, but just go for the top and side edges of the panels.

Ok, had to do some dry brushing.  Light drybrush with a nice soft brush and watered down VGC bone white.

Tracks – a quick wash of GW flesh wash to give a good rusty contrast to the rest of the tank.

Camouflage – thin lines of GW Dark Angels Green. Once dry a light dry brush over the top with VMC medium olive.  Gives a softer edge to the lines.

Detail – go back over the stowage etc with black, then paint them.
Big metal bits (exhaust pipes) get a bit of VGC Tinny Tin, and the rest of the metal gets a mix of gun metal and smokey ink.
Wood bits get GW snakebite leather and a highlight of VGC plague brown
